Blog 12 and 15 - Wikipedia

As I said in class I slacked off so I decided to post these 2 blogs together.

I kept an eye on the discussion part of my Wiki post for way too long. I was waiting for someone to respond, but no one ever did. After I posted my contribution to the fantasy basketball  page, i made sure to check on it at least 2 -3 times a day. I didn't see any changes. I went over to my cousin's house this weekend and i showed him my post. He made an edit because i had an embarrassing spelling error.  I also made some of my own edits. It took me a while to figure out how to add an external link, but then i just looked at another person's post to see how they did it.
My page is dead. No one contributes to it any more. I believe the people who used to contribute, had an argument about posting useless information. At first i was kind of mad that no one had responded to my discussion. Now i am really glad that no one has responded. It makes my life easier, but my first wikipedia experience boring.
I've learned that online communities can be pretty harsh. I didn't learn that from my experience with wiki, but with my classmates experiences. I felt bad for some of my classmates because they tried really hard to contribute to Wiki but they always got booted off. Wikipedia also reminds me of  our first experience with Google Docs. A bunch of people getting together to work on something at one time. It surprised me when some of my classmates posts were taken down 1 minute after posting it. I believe Wikipedia is way more or organized than Google Docs. but I feel that they have almost they same function.
I am glad that I finally contributed to wikipedia. I was looking foward to this point of the class for a long time. I plan on messing around on Wikipedia alot more now that i kind of got the hang of it.

Here is the link to my Wikipedia Page : Fantasy Basketball

I added the Communication heading under the League Settings

My Wiki Name is: BorrisdaButhcher

Blog 14

The Purpose of my Hypertext article: To inform the audience of how digital technology has improved fantasy sports.

Detailed Statement: Fantasy Sports used to be done with a pencil and paper. Fantasy followers used to keep track of their teams to record the number of points they would receive. As technology came into the picture, more fantasy sports games were available online for the convenience of the participants. People were able to watch games without the need of doing any work. They just had to go online and look at the results.

List of Information Need to Gather:
- How new digital technology has provided more games?
- How did the organization of fantasy sports evolve when new technology came into the picture?
- How did new technology bring in more people to play fantasy sports?
- More time to enjoy the game and less time worrying about recording stats
- Why are there more sports joining the fantasy arena?
- How can people still communicate with one another while being in different areas and still feel like they are together?

- News Games

Plan:
My goal is to use all of these websites to gather information on how fantasy sports has changed throughout the years. I also want to focus on how technology has dramatically affected the way fantasy sports are played today. Most people have moved away from pencil and paper and have joined an online league.

The main goal is to answer the question: How has digital Technology changed Fantasy Sports?

Blog 11

Audience: I want to inform teenagers and young adults. I would also like to inform people who were never sure of what fantasy basketball is. Having teenagers and young adults as my audience i feel that it will help me get through to the audience much clearer.

Purpose: I want to inform the people about fantasy basketball. I would like to explain to them how it is played. I also want them to be aware of how technology is involved to make fantasy sports even better. I feel that explaining what fantasy basketball is to teenagers and young adults will help spread the word about it to make more people want to play. I don't think this essay will be too boring for them. I believe that they will find it easy to understand.

Focus: How the use of technology creates a better understanding of different fantasy sports games and sports in general.

My Hypertext essay will be about Fantasy Basketball. In my Wikipedia post I mostly talked about the communication aspect of Fantasy basketball. For my hypertext essay i want to go further into fantasy basketball. i want to explain how fantasy basketball is different from normal basketball. i also want to show how technology has created a wider fan base for fantasy basketball. i will also explain how fantasy basketball has changed the way people look at the sport of basketball.

My goal is to inform people who never knew what fantasy basketball is. I also want to inform sports fans on how all fantasy sports have changed the way all sports are being looked at.

i still have to add a lot more information to this, but i believe there will be enough information to make this hypertext essay possible.

Blog 9 Produsage

The article on produsage can relate to the articles we have read in class. Axel Bruns describes produsage as traditional modes of industrial production. The need to build , operate, and maintain the means of production of physical good and the need to distribute them. There has to be producers in order for there to be consumers.

1) The uses of the internet are for consumers. People visit the sites that are known and that are popular. People don't want to shop Online on a website that they never heard of. The internet is full of producers and consumers. The internet also involves distributors. Ebay is a good example of this system. the person trying to sell an item will go to the distributor, which is Ebay. then Ebay will make a listing for consumers. A consumer wants to "Consume" the item.

2)

3) Remediation - Producers have changed Technology. They have gone out and found the most conveinient ways to sell things. People are now able to buy things online, through the phone, through tv. People don't have to step out of as much as they used too. All they have to do is open the door and sign a paper when the item is delivered. Producers put things online so that they can be spread and known around the web. Everything on the web is there so it can be shown. the traditional ways of doing things have changed. There is online shopping, online banking, and online communicating. By typing up an email, a producer is sending out information for a consumer to consume.

4) Flashmobs= Produsage. A producer has to form a message/email to distribute. when it is distributed, all the consumers can now be called the distributors if they decide to pass the message on. Flashmobs plan everything out in precise details. They have to stay in touch with one another. Producers will distribute messages to consumers and they will also disribute the messages to other consumers.

5) Wikipedia- Wikipedia is an online collaborative encyclopedia. It is full of Producers, consumers and distributors. Producers write up information and distribute it online for all consumers to see. If a consumer disagrees or has more to he/she is able to produce his/her own information. This process is ongoing, until no more information is to be added.
